"Write a blog," he said.
"What about?" I asked.
"Anything," he said.
I thought and thought but came up with nothing. Then, last night, when my sister finished reading me Marthe Jocelyn's new book WOULD YOU, I wanted to tell everyone to read it. It is so moving and entertaining and memorable. Then I remembered that I was instructed to write a blog. Here was my chance. There are far too few reviews of great Canadian children's books and here was one. I could tell anybody who happens on this piece of writing to go and read . It is intended for people who are between fifteen and twenty, perhaps, but I am seventy-six and I loved it.
What other Canadian books have excited me recently? DOLLMAGE by Martine Leavitt is certainly one. I love happening on an author I have never read, enjoying the book mightily and then finding, to my delight that he or she has a whole list of other books already lined up waiting for me.. Martine Leavitt was such a delightful discovery. I was particularly pleased when I found KETURAH AND LORD DEATH was a Recorded Book which I could purchase and reread whenever I wished . I wish more books I long to read were in an audio format now that I can no longer see well enough to read print.
Perhaps I could continue this blog with an essay on the joys of rereading beloved books but I don't think I am up to it at the moment. I am blogged out.
Besides, I have a book I am writing and it is yelling at me to return to it.
