Somebody Elses Summer

Novel, Penguin, 2005, 180 Pages

On a flight from Vancouver to Toronto, two girls meet, forming an unlikely friendship. Tall, athletic Samantha is going to spend the summer with a family friend while her father is in South America. Alexis, a shy girl who likes books, is being sent to a horse farm to learn how to ride while her mother and stepfather are travelling in Australia.

By the time their flight lands in Toronto, the girls have hatched their plots. They’re going to trade places for the summer. After all, the people they’re going to visit have never met them, and their parents are far away and hard to contact. But will they manage to pull it off? For how long? And with what consequences?

An enticing plot with great people to boot! Sam and Alex are like friends to me; I read this book twice and I'd read it again. A great job done by my favourite author.

Flunking students is not an effective way to motivate them to study. “Education is the ability to listen to almost anything without losing your temper or your self-confidence”best replica watches ——Robert Frost Nowadays, students are not as diligent and docile as their former generation, which makes the teachers feel headache. How to let their students focus on their study? Some teachers take this kind of measures to deal with their uneducable students—— flunking students. Personally, I can’t agree with this method. It’s horrible both to students and teachers. From the students’ side, this method can only reduce students’ motivation and confidence for studying well rather than increase their mood of learning. After all, a flunking grade is not a laudable result for everybody. If someone gets flunked, he or she will feel that maybe he or she can’t do anything well. Recently, some college students killed themselves because they failed in critical exams. So flunking students can’t save them but hurt them. From the teachers’ side, this approach may ruin their images in their students. Most students dislike teachers who always give a lot of flunking grades. It makes them think that this kind of teacher is stubborn, carping and difficult to get along with. If the students have had this thought, how could they be motivated by their flunking grades? In a word, flunking students is not a good method for education. Students need to be encouraged and motivated but not in this way.

I read this book but there was some confusing parts and mysterios parts because Samantha went to people she did't met them before while her father in South America .

ALexis went to horse farm to learn hoe to ride while her mother and her stepfather are travelling in Australia.

The story of this book is great i'm giving tip to everyone who did't read this book to buy it or take it from the library or buy it from here and read it.

I loved that book. I read in grade seven and had presented it to the class. I'm not a huge book reader but when I started to read this book I could not put it down. I totally recommend this book for teens like me. And right now I'm reading "Mama's Gonna Buy You a Mocking Bird" by Jean Little. And so far its great. It's definitely not like those books where the first couple of chapters are boring. smilies/smiley.gif

This book was excllent. It was well written, and had interesting key points to make you keep reading. There were funny parts, sad parts, and the topic of the book was very different, but that was good. Samantha's character was appearingly rough, like a tomboy, yet she was soft on the inside. Alex seemed shy, but when Sam got to know her, she was very sensible, and smart.
