Jeremy is not having a good summer. His best friends have moved away, and he has to stay at the cottage with only his little sister and Aunt Margery. His parents have remained in the city so his father can have an operation.

When Jeremy finally sees him again, he finds out that his father has cancer and isn't going to get better. Suddenly, everything is different. Then Jeremy finds an unlikely friend in Tess, who knows what it's like to lose someone. As his friendship with her grows, through good times and bad, Jeremy discovers that his father has left him something that will live forever ...

I couldn’t help but writing my comment on this book here. This is such an awesome book. I really like this book. Among all, I was so impressed by the friendship between Jeremy and Tess. One of my favorite scenes is where Jeremy comes right out and acts as a friend of Tess in front of his classmates. I tried to read this book when I was 12 but I couldn’t as at that time I had just started learning English. (I wonder if this novel is translated to my native tongue, Japanese.) At long last, I actually got to read this magnificent book in my early 20s. I have read it again and again since then, even this is considered to be a children’s book, it doesn’t matter, a good book is good for everyone, there’s no reason for adults to stay away from this. I would definitely have my kids (if I have any in my future) read this book. Thank you very much Ms.Jean Little, for writing such soothing, heart warming story. This really enriches your inside.
